Moving to the Tampa, Florida area from Huntsville, Alabama, in 1987, at the
age of 19, I moved into the Death Metal Capitol of the World, and it was a
metalheads dream come true! I was in the middle of a movement that would change
the metal world forever! I became friends with some of the most recognized metal
bands of all time, like, Savatage, Sepultura, Obituary, Death, Massacre, Napalm
Death, Kreator, Cancer, Deicide, and the list goes on and on.. I was a fan of
metal and meeting, and hanging with the bands I loved!
1988-89, I was a guest host on Musicmania, an afternoon T.V. show on V32
in Tampa, that played music videos and did interviews with bands, such as Death
Angel, Suicidal Tendencies, Dark Angel, Slayer, Motorhead, Savatage, Testament,
Overkill, and many more. Thanks partly to Musicmania I was able to build more
relationships with many bands and promoters, as well as venues, it was good
times.
1989-1990 I was a vocalist for a funk/alternative band called The Haze,
due to tremendous demand we released a self-titled demo, and unfortunately
shortly there after The Haze disbanded and parted ways, due to conflict within.
I then turned to helping bands, trying to manage bands such as Infix, which
is where I met Joe Tolley. Still feeling the urge to be onstage, I moved on to
try a find another band to sing with.
1992, I was the vocalist for a band called Wilted Existence, we built a
large fan base, and due to demand we entered the studio to record, but never
finished the recording, in 1994 Wilted Existence parted ways, unfortunately,
without ever releasing recorded material! In 1994, it became family time for
me.
1996-97, I was a guest host on a short lived pirate radio metal show out
of Tampa, on which I brought guests on such as Deicide and Obituary!
2002, the passion was still around for me to be in the scene. I tryed my
hand at reconnecting with the metal, a some time later teamed up with Ben Meyer
(of Nasty Savage, Gardy Loo), to take part in booking ”Low Life Fest”, and I
have’nt stopped since.
I was asked to manage a band again , Undividual, and did for a short time.
Once again moving back into promoting, I have put together shows throughout the
Tampa bay area, since the departure of managing.
The name Death Metal Dave, was coined by the band Undividual, due to the
amount of Death Metal bands that I have become friends with over the years. I’m
a metalhead through and through!!!!
Not only am I the host of www.brutalbroadcast.com , I sometimes appear as
a guest host on WMNF 88.5 FM Psycho Realms metal radio Tampa, I put on the
occaional benefit shows such as “Metal for the Military” and I also book the
“Brutal Bar-B-Q” shows, I also work closely with the band “Obituary”. I have
always been a guy to make metal happen, trying to keep it alive, I like being in
the middle, its my passion!!!!!
Horns up!!!
Death Metal Dave, in yo face!!!!
